Online Learning Information

Dear SAS Students, Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to our remote learning platform at SAS. We are here to help in any way we can.  Beginning Monday, March 9th, students will need to log into Google Classroom to see assignments, communicate with their teachers and check their Advisory class every day for attendance.  Here is a set of instructions for managing the learning process at home.  Please read and let us know if something isn't clear or if you have questions. Hopefully, the following will give you and your student helpful information students may need to continue with school even though we are not all there together at SAS.

Please remember that students will continue to do all their work for all their classes, just like they would do when school is in session. The advantage of this is that the school year will not need to be extended and they can complete their school work anytime and anywhere!

Communication

  • The teachers’ main communication with parents will be via email. Their main communication with students will be via their student email and through Google Classroom. PLEASE check your email and be sure your student checks their school email frequently.
  • You may try calling SAS about general questions, but teachers should be contacted through email. Teachers will be monitoring email frequently.
  • If the school closure turns out to be a lengthy one (more than 2 weeks), we may create other methods to communicate. We’ll let you know if that happens.

Classwork

  • All of SAS classes will now be on Google Classroom. Most of our students are already signed on to at least one class, but they will need to do so for all of their classes. Some teachers will invite students, others will have their classes automatically populated.  Students should make sure they are signed onto ALL of the classes they’re enrolled in INCLUDING Advisory. If students simply need to go to Google Classroom and accept the invitation to join. They should do this before Monday, March 9th.

Google Classroom

If you or your student are unfamiliar with Google Classroom, here are some helpful tips:

  • For students to access with a computer:

1. Students should start by signing into their school Google account (your unique student ID number @apps.nsd.org).

2. Then find the classroom icon in the “waffle” (top right corner of the screen) OR go to classroom.google.com

3. Press the + sign and say “join class.”

4. Students will repeat step 3 for each class they need to join.

  • For students to access with their phone:

1.     Click on their iPhone or Android ‘App Store’

2.     Download ‘Google Classroom’ in the App Store.

3.     Once ‘Google Classroom’ is completely downloaded, click the ‘Google Classroom’ icon.

4.     Click ‘Get Started’

5.     Sign in with their unique student ID number @apps.nsd.org

6.     Their Google Classroom app is now open with all classes viewable (Again, they may need to click the + sign and click “join class” for each class with that option.).

  • Once students have joined, they should start looking under the “Classwork” tab for assignments and get to work! If there are no assignments posted yet, they should keep checking back. Teachers may also post announcements under “Stream,” so stay tuned in!
  • Parents, some teachers may have added you as a guardian for your student, while other teachers will be inviting you to join in supporting your students with Google Classroom. You will need to accept the invitation to join as a guardian for your student. You will be able to choose your notifications settings to determine how often you would like to receive information about your student’s classes. Please contact your students’ teachers with any questions about this.
